Following is an excerpt:
The U.S. House of Representatives will mull a Republican-led appropriations bill aimed at halting several employment rules, including those regulating joint employment and worker classification, as a potential federal government shutdown looms.
House Education and Labor Committee Chair Virginia Foxx said rules covering joint employment, worker classification and prevailing wages for H-2A visa holders "advance the Biden administration's Big Labor agenda at the expense of working Americans and should be rescinded."
The Labor Health and Human Services Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, or H.R. 5894, will go in front of the House this week. Funding for the government is set to run out Friday, and a shutdown could impact the country. …
Employer-side Epstein Becker Green attorney Paul DeCamp, who was an administrator of the DOL's Wage and Hour Division from 2006 to 2007, told Law360 on Monday that there's still a long road ahead before the bill might become law, and its final version might be different from what it looks like today.
"For now, we should grab some popcorn and watch the process unfold, mindful that the issues addressed by these riders, and many others, are currently on the legislative table," DeCamp said.
