Karen Mandelbaum, Senior Counsel, moderates a panel discussion, "Privacy, HIPAA, and CPT Codes, Uncoded," at ViVE 2024, which runs from February 25 to 28.

As we witness the rapid evolution of technology and medical practices, the need to maintain patient privacy and adhere to the robust standards of HIPAA becomes paramount. At the same time, dealing with some CPT codes feels like trying to use a flip phone in an iPhone world. It just doesn’t allow billing for asynchronous care services that do not fit the traditional mold of billing codes. To make our healthcare system more efficient, we must reinvent how we think about time, our privacy sharing laws, and ways to make billing more flexible. Let’s identify the gaps in our system when it comes to data privacy, informed consent, and reimbursement so we can develop practical solutions that foster innovation and drive meaningful change. Addressing these challenges head-on will pave the way for a more patient-centric and adaptable system. Time to decode this, one step at a time.
