Mark Lutes, a Member of the Firm in the Health Care and Life Sciences Practice in the Washington, DC office, has been chosen to receive the Monsignor Geno Baroni Caritas Advocacy Award for 2008. This award—the highest award of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington—is given annually to individuals who have been strong advocates for the vulnerable and oppressed populations through their activities in the Archdiocesan community over a long period of time.
Lutes's nomination was presented to the Catholic Charities Board of Directors and he was enthusiastically selected to receive this year's award. The Caritas Awards presentation Mass and ceremony will take place during National Volunteers Month, Sunday, April 19, 2009. The Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, 619 Tenth Street, NW, Washington, DC, at 10:00 a.m.
"I am grateful to Catholic Charities and Archbishop Weurl for the recognition," said Lutes. "I want to thank my colleagues at EBG who have assisted in this important work. I look forward to continuing to assist the Center in providing hope to those who need medical and dental care, job and language training."
In notifying Lutes of the award, Edward J. Orzechowski, President and CEO of the Catholic Charities, wrote: "We are delighted to recognize your selfless devotion to the Spanish Catholic Center of Catholic Charities. The program has benefited tremendously from your leadership as Chair of the Advisory Council on Hispanic Affairs and the time you have given as a volunteer advisor on the HealthCare Taskforce, as well as the many hours you have provided to help our clinics run more efficiently."
