What are some of the department's most satisfying successes of 2023, and why?

When our Princeton team tried the first post-COVID commercial jury case (it settled immediately after opening statements), we correctly foresaw that 2023 would be a milestone year. With COVID-based delays out of the way, we could press the accelerator to take our cases out of cruise control.

From a numbers perspective, we won one of the largest payor-provider arbitrations against the largest healthcare company in the world: United Healthcare. We won the $111 million award on the ground, with a team made up of real contributors … For that same client, we settled a series of series of lawsuits against Aetna Health in Florida. These claims exceeded $400 million and concerned Aetna's underpayment to emergency room physicians and anesthesiologists for medical services rendered to out-of-network patients. …
