Following is an excerpt:
Congressional appropriators proposed Tuesday to increase the budget for the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division by $9 million for the next fiscal year.
The U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations said it will seek to devote $260 million to the DOL's Wage and Hour Division as part of the $1.7 trillion omnibus bill for the 2023 fiscal year. In March, President Joe Biden asked Congress to sign off on $14.6 billion in discretionary funding for the DOL, of which $2.2 billion would go to worker protection agencies.
The proposal is expected to go before the Senate and the House of Representatives before the end of the week. …
Epstein Becker Green's Paul DeCamp, who led the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division under President George W. Bush, told Law360 that the $9 million increase is not as large as it seems once adjusted for inflation.
"This level of funding will hinder enforcement efforts in the coming year, though not to a significant degree," DeCamp said.
